WORK has been completed on a £2.5m project to build new sports, library and science facilities at St Mary's Catholic School in Windhill, Bishop's Stortford. Construction company Bluestone has been working on the project which sees a new block containing a science laboratory, library, ICT and general teaching facilities. The company has also built a sports hall housing four badminton courts - adaptable to host other indoor sports such as five-a-side football, basketball and hockey - together with showers and changing rooms, storage and office accommodation. Headteacher Tony Sharpe said: "This has been an important project to provide improved amenities for the school across both academic and sporting spheres as our pupil numbers continue to increase. "Bluestone has given St Mary's impressive new buildings of which we are immensely proud.
METHUEN, Mass. Federal safety regulators are fining a construction company more than 167-thousand dollars for failing to provide protection to employees working at a Billerica construction site. Multi Building Incorporated of Lewisville, Texas faces nine alleged violations at the Villas at Old Concord site. Two OSHA fines totaling 140-thousand dollars are for willful violations. Seven serious citations totaling more than 27-thousand dollars were issued for failing to train employees in fall protection, failing to prevent falls of more than six feet and other hazards at the site. OSHA says the company has been cited twice for alleged violations at the Billerica site. Multi Building has 15 business days to contest the decision. The company isn't commenting on the allegations.
BOZEMAN - A Helena construction company will be the general contractor for the $30 million renovation of Bozeman High School and plans to establish a permanent office here.Dick Anderson Construction was one of four companies that competed for the contract awarded by the Bozeman School Board.Architects still are working on plans for the renovation. Selecting a general contractor early in the process may help with cost control, the school board said.Dick Anderson Construction worked on renovation of the state Capitol in Helena, and is constructing a $24 million chemistry building at Montana State University in Bozeman. .
NEW YORK, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, today announced that construction costs in the third quarter 2006 are projected to increase over the second quarter 2006. According to the Turner Building Cost Index, the third quarter 2006 index will rise to 801, showing a 1.78 percent increase over the second quarter 2006 index of 787 and a 10.33 percent increase over the third quarter 2005 index of 726. Turner has made its quarterly forecast for more than 60 years. According to Karl F. Almstead, the Turner vice president responsible for the Building Cost Index, "The frenzied market activity of the past several quarters appears to be stabilizing. Although the strain on skilled labor remains, a lower level of volatility in commodities has served as a stabilizing influence on construction costs.
Broking house, Motilal Oswal expects Nagarjuna Construction to report revenues of Rs5.5b (up 50% YoY) and net profit of Rs366m (up 75% YoY). Their report says, During 2QFY07, we expect Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) to report revenues of Rs5.5b (up 50% YoY) and net profit of Rs366m (up 75% YoY). As at June 2006, NCCs order backlog stood at Rs62.7b (equivalent to 3.5xFY06 revenues), up 22% YoY. The order book composition stands thus: Roads Rs31b, water projects Rs11.2b, buildings Rs10.3b, electricals Rs4.3b and irrigation works Rs6b. NCC has announced order intake of Rs9.5b (notified to the stock exchange) in 2QFY07. Some of the key orders received by the company includes: Road project in Oman (Rs7.2b), and orders from structures, dams etc (Rs2.3b).
