Officials involved in the construction of the Washington Nationals' new ballpark in Southeast said yesterday work on the stadium is progressing on time and hailed the arrival of the ballpark's steel framework as an indication that things are moving swiftly. More than 300 workers from the joint venture involving the Clark, Hunt and Smoot construction companies have toiled at the site since April and last week began raising the first sections of steel -- a key stage in determining whether the project is on schedule to open in 17 months. "To put it very simple, we are on time, on budget and we expect to have the ballpark open by April of 2008," said Allen Lew, chief executive officer of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission, which has oversight of the project.
YAROSLAVL, October 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin has visited an exhibition of road machinery that will be used in the projects for improving the networks of Russian automobile roads. The display shows more than 30 types of vehicles -- asphalt spreaders, rolls, excavators, bulldozers - that are used in all the phases of road construction. Apart from these, put up for the show are road maintenance vehicles and mobile gauging laboratories. Exhibition stands show models of new non-routine bridges, the plans for modernizing the country's transport system, investment projects, the systems of telematics and navigation on automobile transport, as well as new road construction technologies. A report, the working group of the State Council drafted for the session, stresses the key role that automobile roads have for the implementation of priority national projects.
Five CREW Seattle members joined us for a roundtable recently to share some personal insight into their careers in commercial real estate. All are preeminent leaders in their respective fields. Q: What motivated you to enter the commercial real estate field and what motivates you to stay? TAYLOR: What continually motivates me in the field of architecture is my love and passion for what I do. A teacher suggested architecture when I told him that I wanted my degree in interior design. Touring my first school of architecture, it was love at first sight. After receiving my masters' degree, I worked on large corporate headquarters in New York as a draftsperson. Within a few months, I was asked to be a job captain on the 300,000-square-foot headquarters for Continental Can.
The construction company E&R Erectors Inc. of Bensalem, Pa. was issued a citation with a proposed penalty of $140,000 for safety violations committed during construction of the University's new College of Law building. The company was hired as a sub-contractor for steel assembly by P. Agnes, Inc., the University's contractor for the building. The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA), which enforces safe working conditions in the U.S., cited the construction company for its lack of fall protection while performing structural steel activities and steel beam connection work. "Over the years, Drexel has enjoyed a very positive and credible working experience with P. Agnes, Inc. on construction projects that have taken place on campus," said Anthony Caneris, senior vice president of Student Life and Administrative Services.
VISTA ---- The city's long-running plan to revitalize the South Santa Fe Avenue corridor is still in the pipeline, city officials said last week, but issues with a flood plain in the project area have created a hiccup that engineers are still trying to resolve.Three years after the city began working on plans to revamp the blighted commercial district, little has changed along the busy downtown corridor that is peppered with auto-repair shops, liquor stores and a huge lumber yard. The city dreams of making the area a pedestrian showpiece with retail stores, restaurants and offices, as well as with town homes and other residential spaces. City staffers have said it takes time to lay the proper groundwork for such an ambitious project. .
