Officials with southwest China's Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality made pledges at an ongoing conference about drought relief that they will strengthen the water conservancy construction "at all costs" to avoid the recurrence of the abject droughts torturing the two places this summer.
In the next few years, Chongqing will invest more money in the infrastructure construction of farmland water conservancy and complete the construction of a drought monitoring and forecast system, said Liao Daiyu, vice head of the city's flood control and drought relief office.
The official added that the office will also work on how to utilize the limited water resources in a more efficient way when the area is hit by a drought again.
The neighboring Sichuan Province also promised a large scale water conservancy construction before the next summer.
An Oklahoma City man spent Christmas Day in jail, after being arrested the day before for allegedly stealing cabinets from a home under construction in Norman.Christopher Cain Saylor, 43, was charged Wednesday with unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous drug; knowingly concealing stolen property; and second-degree burglary.According to court documents, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in front of a home under construction in the 300 block of Dolinna Drive. DURHAM -- State officials inspected Eagles Landing after North Carolina Central asked the state to buy the privately-owned dorm. Inside, they found trash dangerously packed into a garbage chute, which they called a fire hazard, sprinklers that did not work, and water damage. In a letter to the director of Durham's Inspections Department, officials from the State Construction Office said, "Regardless of whether the state purchases Eagles Landing or chooses not to...there needs to be immediate correction of all life safety items by the private owner." "We, of course, believe the building is safe," said Rosalind Fuse-Hall, who is with the NCCU Real Estate Foundation, which is the group that owns the dorm.
